Dear Families:

Happy New Year, welcome 2020! We hope 2020 brings great opportunities to our children, families and faculty. Please see below, the 2020 Winter/Spring Event Calendar with our special planned events.

We would like to thank our families for their generosity for all gifts, sweets and good food this holiday season. We all “felt the love” and appreciated the kindness. Also, the administrative staff and faculty would like to thank all those who have donated to our coat drive to Pronto, located in Bay Shore, with coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. This organization was very appreciative of your generosity and compassion.

Our January Tutor Times Calendar and Menu is available on our website, at the check-in kiosk and always posted in every classroom on the Family Wall. Check out the Fun Fridays and other special events where the entire school can participate together.

This month’s theme is Chinese New Year, Martin Luther King, and Winter. For our Sign Language and Spanish Program, the children will be focusing on this theme as well. Our song of the month is “I’m a Friendly Snowman”. Music with Miss Laurie will continue to bring new and theme related songs to the children’s already growing repertoire every Monday. A copy of our January songs is available on our website under News and and Events. Easy, fun and short tunes to sing in the car on the way to or from Tutor Time!

On Tuesday mornings, Classy Baby ASL will continue to join our Infants, Toddlers and Two’s classrooms. This wonderful program is an educationally fun way to enhance the Infant, Toddler and Early Two’s prelinguistic/linguistic skills by learning sign language through music, nursery rhymes and fun activities.

Our Pre-Kindergarten classrooms have been working hard with our Handwriting Without Tears . This program helps them correctly form letters and numbers, from top down, without the dotted mid line. This program is great for spatial awareness, natural formation and a multi sensory hands-on approach to writing that includes dough, music, wood pieces, and mini chalk boards. Sight words are in full swing, and weekly homework is helping to reinforce what they are currently working on as well as establishing expectations for their upcoming year in Kindergarten.

OurGrow Fit: Yoga program is finding success in our Two’s, Three’s and Pres-K classrooms. Please find the yoga position of the week on the Family Wall in your child’s classroom.

All classrooms will continue to find time to be outside on the playground this winter. Please label all hats, gloves, scarves, snow pants and boots. Please have these items in school every day.

Tutor Time Melville is a special place to be! Thank you for your continued support in our school. Families are truly the backbone of our program. We look forward to a wonderful year singing, dancing, playing and learning.

All my best,

Lauren Salatti
