Our School

Wishing you and yours a very happy, healthy and safe holiday season!

Dear Families:

Welcome February, the month of love, kindness and history.

We have many fun things planned throughout the month. Our February calendar is available on our website, at the check-in kiosk and always posted in every classroom on the Family Wall. Check out the Fun Fridays and other special events where the entire school can participate together.

This month’s theme is Love, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, Random Acts of Kindness, Black History Month and Chinese New Year! For our Sign Language and Spanish Program, the children will focus on these themes, as well. Our song of the month is “I’m a Little Valentine”.

The entire month of February, we are hosting a For the Love of Animals donation drive. All donations will go to the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Shelter in Huntington. They are a non-profit, non-terminal animal shelter that operates strictly on the community’s donations. They specifically are in desperate need for: laundry detergent, poop bags, dog beds, SOFT dog and cat treats. Currently, they do not need food, blankets or towels. They are so appreciative of our help and look forward to seeing our school when they pick up the donations on February 27.

In honor of a student who attended our Two’s program, we will have a bake sale the week of February 11 - 15. All monies raised will be donated to the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation. Our student Zayna was a cherished little girl who loved attending Tutor Time and passed away on January 8, 2015 from acute liver failure. She was born with Thalassemia Major and had a lifelong battle of weekly blood transfusions. Each year, we keep her memory alive and donate to her foundation. We keep in touch with her mom who is forever grateful for all donations.

Save the date: Thursday, February 7, our VIP Valentine’s Day Dance is at 6:15 pm. Join us for a dance that honors our children’s loved ones. Dress to impress! There is a RSVP sign-up sheet at the front desk. Valentine’s Day class parties are on February 14. Wear red to school!

As part of our Spotlight on the Community, on February 12 from 4:30-5:30 pm a parent in our school community will share her products, Stylist for Color Street. The products are 100% REAL Nail Polish Strips - Made in the USA. It's essentially a sticker which is a base coat, polish and top coat all in one that comes 95% dry. She will have some samples for you to try as well. If you would like to be in our spotlight, please see Lauren.

All classrooms will continue to find time to be outside on the playground this winter. Please label all hats, gloves, scarves, snow pants and boots. Please have these items in school every day.

Tutor Time Melville is a special place to be! Thank you for your continued support in our school. Families are truly the backbone of our program. We look forward to a wonderful year singing, dancing, playing and learning with you all!

Best wishes,

Lauren, Debra, Jessica and Jessica L
